With Autumn's Return

With Autumn’s Return is the final installment in the Westward Winds series by Amanda Cabot.  I really enjoyed the first two books and this one was just as wonderful. I think the second one, Waiting for Spring is still my favorite.  This can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading all three.  I really liked the main character Elizabeth Harding and watching her journey to be accepted as a woman doctor in the late 1800’s.  I loved her tenacity, conviction and strength of character at such a young age. Elizabeth’s dreams have never had room for a husband and children, but dreams change.  Jason Nordling is a very strong character as well and watching him give his doubts to the Lord and reach for love was very satisfying to watch unfold. I was so happy to see Gwen’s story continued, she is a character I was rooting for in the second book.  This book had a really wonderful plot that shows how stereotypes and prejudice can endanger a community.  It was refreshing to watch Elizabeth and Jason fight for what is right despite the personal cost.   It was very interesting and a little horrifying to see the history of the medical field and how medicine was taught and has evolved.  You can tell Cabot did a lot of research in that area.  This book makes Wyoming sound so beautiful; it makes me want to see it!  Overall I really enjoyed the whole series and always look forward to new books by this author. Definitely recommend!!

Dare to Love Again

Dare to Love Again is the second novel in the Heart of San Francisco series by Julie Lessman.  This is a wonderful novel that I really enjoyed!  You definitely need to read Love at Any Cost, the first book in the series so that you can understand the storyline-it is a great read as well.   Lessman has really done her research and offers a very authentic look at San Francisco during the early 1900s.  I really enjoyed the plot and couldn’t figure out the mystery that surrounded Nick Barone until the very end.  Lessman’s character development is superb!  I absolutely adore the women of the McClare family and the star of this novel, Allison McClare is a fun mix of spunk, humor, and vulnerability.  Her journey to independence is a joy to watch unfold and the sparks between her and Detective Nick Barone makes this a really enjoyable book.

Lessman gently intertwines the power of God’s love and grace throughout the book and is very sweet.  I loved tough guy Nick Barone and his battles against himself and the revenge that is raging in heart.  Him and Allison is a fun pair and prove nothing is fair in love and war.  Lessman has left some unfinished business with two of her characters that I can’t wait to see resolved in her next novel.  I am looking forward to the next book in this series.  Lessman’s writing is funny, exciting and romantic!  Highly recommend!
