Widow of Gettysburg

Widow of Gettysburg is the second book in the Heroines Behind the Lines series by Jocelyn Green.  Liberty Holloway is a young widow that has big dreams of turning her farm into an inn for travelers.  The Civil War quickly steals that dream as her farm is turned into a Confederate field hospital.  Liberty, the widow of a Union solider decides that even though the War has taken her husband and is destroying her farm that she must nurse these enemy soldiers the best she can.  She is aided by her hired help, Bella.  Bella has every reason to not help these men being a former slave, but Bella has a secret that is bigger than her hate and drives her to help and protect Liberty.  As these two women try to pick up the pieces that the War leaves behind, there is a stranger that is drawn to Liberty and wants to help and protect her without getting too close to the beautiful widow.  His past sins keep him from being worthy of her love and shame keeps his identity secret.

This is a second book in a series, but can be read as a stand alone.  I am so impressed with this novel!  I could not put it down!  Green’s research and authentic storyline were an absolute joy to read.  There are so many twists and turns in the storyline and the characters were so intriguing, that it is one of the best novels I have read in a long time.  All the side stories of the various characters woven together made it very exciting.  I love a good love story and this one was beautiful to watch unfold. The villains were pure evil, but the novel showed that God’s goodness can overcome anything.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book!  Looking forward to future titles from this author.
