Love at Any Cost

Love At Any Cost is the first book of a new series by Julie Lessman.  Cassidy McClare has always been an outcast in Humble Texas’s elite society because she would much rather be in pants out on the range with her pa, shooting pool or helping out on the Reservation than being a proper young lady.  That all changed when Mark Chancellor came to court.  For the first time Cassidy felt that she was accepted for who she was until her pa’s oil pumps went dry.  Mark’s affection dried up as well.  To forgive and forget, Cassidy goes to visit her cousins in San Francisco.  The last thing Cassidy needs or wants is another suitor, but Jamie McKenna is determined to win her heart.  As Jamie falls in love with Cassidy he is under the impression that Cassidy is a rich oil heiress that will him support his family and promote his career.  Will Jamie hurt Cassidy as Mark did or trust God with the future?

This is my first Lessman novel and I adore her writing style.  She is absolutely hilarious and reminded me of Deeanne Gist or Mary Connealy.  This is a beautiful story of love, forgiveness, family ties and is interwoven with much humor that made for a very enjoyable read.  Cassidy is a mix of fragile and strength and her journey to forgiveness and trust after loss was great to watch unfold.  Jamie’s bitterness over his past and fierce determination to depend on himself while leaving God on the sidelines was very realistic and added so much to the storyline .  This is a wonderful novel that had many twists and turns that kept surprising me along the way.  Can’t wait for the next book in the series!
