Moonlight Masquerade

Moonlight Masquerade is a Regency romance by Ruth Axtell.  Lady Wexham is one of the wealthiest and most sought after woman in English society, but it has come at a high price.  The price was a loveless marriage to a much older and cruel man that never produced a child.  Now a widow, Lady Wexham finds herself attending social event after social event feeling that she is just existing and not leading a life of meaning.  Could she find fulfillment in helping her native France by spying on the British political figures in her circles of influence?  Rees Philips is sent to Lady Wexham’s home under the disguise of a butler to see if Lady Wexham is just a woman of social standing or is a French spy.  Yet the more Rees digs into Lady Wexham’s life the more he finds himself divided between love of country and love of a woman much beyond his reach.  If she is a traitor, will Rees betray his heart or his country?

I absolutely loved this novel!  This is a very exciting piece of history that Axtell has based her writing on and she really knows her history to produce such an authentic read.  The romance is fantastic and it was an absolute joy to watch Lady Wexham and Rees and their social standings as an aristocrat and butler fight their growing attraction of each other.  The intrigue was very intense with Lady Wexham in danger with foes from both England and France and Rees becoming her protector.  I love how Axtell intertwined God’s love and plan for our lives in the story!  Can’t wait for the next installment to come out!  Highly Recommend!
