A New Home for Lily

A New Home for Lily is the second book in the Adventures of Lily Lapp series by Mary Ann Kingsinger and Suzanne Woods Fisher.  Lily has had many changes since the first book, Life with Lily.  Lily’s family has moved from New York to Pennsylvania to a different Amish community.  Lily has a new school, new friends, a new house and unfortunately a new hallway bedroom.  Some changes are wonderful such as her nice teacher and her new friend Beth. Other changes are very difficult to come to terms with such as the new house that is so small, naughty Aaron Yoder from class, and learning all the different Amish traditions in this new community.  Lily has many new adventures in her new home such as pet goats, gray jell-o and sledding with classmates.  Lily must learn that you must take the good with the bad and learn how to not just be content, but sincerely happy with her new home in Pennsylvania.

I absolutely love this series!  I am truly fascinated by the Amish culture and enjoy the playful and fun story of Lily Lapp and her family.  I love seeing the different family dynamics and traditions compared to our fast paced society.  My heart ached for Lily with her new doll and her grandmother and I couldn’t stop laughing at the hanging scripture incident.  This series evokes a wide array of emotions and is enjoyable for children and adults alike.  Very fun and refreshing and I can’t wait for the next one!  The third book in the series, A Big Year for Lily will be released soon.
