Choose Joy

Choose Joy by Kay Warren explores what joy is, how joy is different from happiness and how God equips us to be joyful through all circumstances.  Using scripture and personal experiences, Warren shows the reader that joy is a quiet confidence in God no matter what life throws at us where happiness is based on our current feelings and circumstances.  Using her personal journey Kay walks us through how we can change our thought process, take care of our physical and spiritual needs and reach out to others to bring real joy into our lives as women.  Life is full of storms, we need to be equipped with true joy to not just survive, but thrive.  Our joy through any circumstance can be a great testimony to others.

Let me start off by saying that I am not a nonfiction person, and it is usually hard for me to get into something other than a novel, this book was definitely the exception.  This book had incredible insight, but was not heavy.  It was an easy read that I got a lot out of.  I am very optimistic and cheerful person and didn’t know what this book would have for me.  It had a lot!!  I have always been very happy, but tended to crumble when something went wrong.  This book really delved into how to have true joy no matter what.  I was taken aback at how honest Kay Warren was about her life.  She opened up about having to overcome negativity, going to marriage counseling, and several hurtful circumstances that I couldn’t imagine sharing with such a wide audience-I am so thankful that she did!  This book is not for happy women, sad women, it is for all women.  Don’t put this book on your shelf when you are done-share it with a girlfriend and tell them to keep passing it!
