Chasing the Sun

Chasing the Sun is Tracie Peterson’s first book in her new series the Land of the Lone Star.  Hannah never wanted to come to a rugged cattle ranch outside of Dallas during the Civil War.  The ranch was awarded to her father for being instrumental in the Confederate War efforts.  It was taken from the Barnetts when they went to fight for the union.  As Hannah’s father goes missing, a lone Barnett son returns to reclaim his ranch.  With Comanche raids, responsibility of raising her younger siblings, and a sinister suitor, Hannah turns to William Barnett for help.  Can the unlikely alliance lead to more between Hannah and William?

I love historical fiction based on the Civil War.  Peterson did a refreshing twist with this novel by showing how people suffered from the affects of the war hundreds of miles from the fighting.  The prejudice that William suffers for fighting for the union, was a very stirring element to the plot.  Chasing the Sun takes several different twists from secret cattle drives to starving Rebel soldiers to fighting Small Pox in a Comanche village.  I loved little Marty and her antics made me smile.  This is my first Tracie Peterson novel and I am looking forward to Touching the Sky coming out in June.
